Then type the above command, replacing 'password' with the password you want to use and 'email' with your email address. This protects your nickname from being used by others, but you will need to identify with nickserv everytime you join (MIRC can do this automatically for you). Around JOTI you may need to register using http://www.jotajoti.org/ /nickserv identify password or /nickserv login nickname password to identify with nickserv, change your nickname to your registered nickname, and type the above command, replacing 'password' with your password. If you do not identify, and you are using a registered nickname, then nickserv will change your name to something else. /nickserv ghost nickname password or /nickserv login nickname password sometimes you will be accidentally disconnected from the servers, and when you return, you will find you can't use your nickname because it is already being used. This is because the server hasn't registered that you disconnected the first time. This is called a 'ghost'. Eventually the ghost will disappear, but if you want to claim your nickname back straight away, use the above command. Replace nickname with the name you want to be, and use your registered password for that nickname. You can only do this if your nickname was registered. /ircops Ircops are operators that help look after the IRC network. They can ban people from the network if they are causing trouble. If you need to find an IRCop then type the above command, and a list will appear in your status window. If you want to speak to a channel operator or chanop, who look after specific channels, just ask in the channel you are in if there are any around. /query nickname /msg nickname To send a private message to a user, or to contact a user who isn't in your channel (you can double click on people's names to start a private chat here) then use the above command, replacing nickname with the name of the person you want to contact. /notice nickname Sends a private message to a user which will appear in whichever window they are currently looking at (so there is more chance of them seeing it). Please note: Most people on Scoutlink would rather chat in the main channels than in private, so you may want to ask before initiating a private chat. /me this is an action command, so if you want to perform an action such as 'Peter throws an apple to Emily' try typing '/me throws an apple to Emily'. /whois nickname this command tells you information about a user. You can find out your own information using the same command. /quit The last command as it's the last thing you should want to do! To leave Scoutlink just type /quit. if you want to leave a message, you can type some words after /quit which will be displayed when you leave. E.g. /quit See you later everyone Message to all channels you are on: User Quit (See you later everyone).
